Iranian frigate Moudge II

Iranian frigate Moudge II

The Iranian frigate "Moudge 2", alternately spelled Mowaj 2, Mowj 2 or Moj 2 (meaning Wave 2) is the second ship of the Iranian Moudge class frigates which appears to be a development of the Alvand class (British Saam class).

On February 23, 2007, Iranian media reported that the production of the ship had commenced. When completed it will have the ability to carry helicopters, anti-ship missiles, surface-to-air missiles, torpedoes, modern guns and air defence guns. The ship will also be equipped with electronic warfare devices. Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA). It is described as a Destroyer by the Iranian state media but the size and weight of the ship is more in keeping with that of modern frigates. Because of the 1,420 ton weight, the ship is also referred to as a corvette as it is on the lower end of frigate tonnage. Images of the ship are not readily available. Although the Fars News Agency mistakenly placed an image of the 9,800 ton USS Kidd (DDG-993) in its non-English version of the "Moudge 2" construction announcement.
