Lakeland College Japan Campus

nihongo|Lakeland College Japan|レイクランド大学ジャパン・キャンパス|Reikurando Daigaku Japann kyanpasu is a two-year college located in the Shinjuku ward of Tokyo, Japan. Since its inception in 1991, LCJ has been continuously accredited by America's North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. After completing a two-year A.A. program, most of the students advance to the home campus in Wisconsin, USA., or to other campuses in North America, to complete a four-year bachelor of arts (B.A.) degree. They then return to Japan to find work. LCJ also offers overseas students the opportunity to earn U.S. college credits while living in Japan.

Courses

All LCJ students complete a rigorous general education curriculum that includes instruction in writing, public speaking, critical thinking, mathematics, natural science, social science, humanities, history, religion, and art. Students are also free to take seven elective courses to explore areas of individual interest and begin fulfilling specific requirements in a major area of study. Electives are available in art and design, business, computer science, foreign languages, history, philosophy, social science, religion, mathematics, and cross-cultural studies.

Before entering the academic program, most students graduate from LCJ's specially designed EAP (English for Academic Purposes) program, a series of pre-academic courses that strengthen students' English-language abilities and the special skills (including summary writing, essay writing, note-taking, and classroom discussion) required to succeed U.S. college courses. The LCJ EAP program uses a communicative teaching method that prizes fluency over precision. The curriculum is designed to avoid excessive emphasis on the teaching of grammar and to allow students to develop skills naturally through exposure and practice.
