Can't Help Falling in Love

Can't Help Falling in Love

"Can't Help Falling in Love", by George Weiss, Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore, is a pop song based on "Plaisir d'amour" by Jean Paul Egide Martini. It was rewritten for the 1961 film "Blue Hawaii", starring Elvis Presley.

Elvis Presley's version

In the U.S., the Elvis Presley recording was released by RCA Victor Records as catalog number 47-7968 in 1961. Peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in that year, and at number four on the "Cash Box" magazine Best-Selling Records list in January of the following year, "Can't Help Falling in Love" was ranked #394 on "Rolling Stone"'s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It also spent six weeks atop the Easy Listening chart that "Billboard" magazine had just begun publishing earlier in 1961; in later years, this chart would be renamed the "Adult Contemporary" chart. This was Presley's first of seven #1s on this chart. [Whitburn, Joel (1996). "The Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits", 6th Edition (Billboard Publications)]

In 1968, Presley, in both the sit-down and stand-up segments of his NBC-TV special, gave the song a new live treatment. By July 1969, Elvis used the song almost invariably to close his live concerts, including his last in late June 1977 at the old Indianapolis Market Square Arena.Presleys version is still famous till now than any other artist.

This version was put on the music game .

"Can't Help Falling in Love" was an A*Teens special release for the "Lilo & Stitch" movie soundtrack. It is a cover version of the original song by Elvis Presley.

The soundtrack was full of Elvis tracks, so the A*Teens had to record a cover of one of his songs and they picked "Can't Help Falling in Love". Adding an "A*Teens sound" to it, europop more like, the track became a huge hit on Radio Disney in the United States, reaching number-one and staying there for 2 weeks. [ [http://radio.disney.go.com/index.html Radio Disney] ] The video had big exposure on several channels, so the A*Teens took advantage of this, and released their third album, "Pop 'Til You Drop!" on that June in the United States. Because of this, "Can't Help Falling in Love" had two music videos to promote both Disney Movie and their third album.

The song was a radio hit in the United States, and reached #12 in Sweden, #16 in Argentina and #41 in Australia. Despite of the success of the song overseas, it failed to attract the rest of the Latin American public, due to the fact that there was a Spanish version of the song, performed by the Argentine group, Bandana. In addition, the A*Teens' version of the song was overshadowed by the promotion of Bandana's version.

Music video

The video was directed by Gregory Dark and filmed in Los Angeles, California. It had two different versions. The "Disney Version", as the fans named it, features scenes of the movie, and also new scenes of the A*Teens with beach costumes. The "A*Teens Version" of the video, features the A*Teens on the white background with different close-ups and choreography, and scenes with puppies and different costumes.
