Cedaredge is a Statutory Town in Delta County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,854 at the 2000 census. Cedaredge is nestled in Surface Creek Valley beneath the southern slopes of the Grand Mesa, the largest mesa in the world. Its elevated vantage point allows for spectacular southern views of the San Juan Mountains, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, and the communities of Delta, Colorado, Olathe, Colorado, and Montrose, Colorado. Cedaredge is a small, agricultural community which produces apples, peaches, and wine from the region's several vineyards. Notable attractions include Deer Creek Village Golf Club, Historic Pioneer Town, and an art gallery and craft store housed in a renovated apple packing shed. Regional sporting activities include camping, trophy hunting, hiking and Gold Medal fishing at more than 250 lakes on the Grand Mesa. During the winter locals partake in snowmobiling and Nordic skiing on the Mesa's numerous trails. Powderhorn Resort is located 30 miles north of Cedaredge and offers a variety of ski terrain such as groomers, bumps, glades, and boulder fields, as well as two quality terrain parks.

Attractions and Events

Pioneer Town

Pioneer Town is a museum and historical village. Visitors can go back in time by visiting the museum's replicas of early 20th century town buildings, including a western saloon, marshall's office, barber shop, bank, clothing store, jail, creamery, and a working blacksmith's shop. Pioneer Town is also the home of the Chapel of the Cross. The latest major addition to Pioneer Town is the Doll and Toy House, a building designed to display a portion of the museum's large collection of dolls and toys from the past.

Deer Creek Village Golf Club

Deer Creek Village Golf Club is a unique 18 hole, 72 par course with two distinct nines and four elevated tees. It is located at an elevation of 6100 feet, with plenty of trees, rolling terrain, water features and hazards. Deer Creek Village also includes a driving range, clubhouse, and grill.

Applefest

Held the first weekend in October, this event offers fun-filled days of arts, crafts, food booths and music in the park.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,854 people, 894 households, and 554 families residing in the town. The population density was 898.9 people per square mile (347.5/km²). There were 1,000 housing units at an average density of 484.9/sq mi (187.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.01% White, 0.05% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 0.59% from other races, and 2.37% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.39% of the population.

There were 894 households out of which 20.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.0% were non-families. 34.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.07 and the average family size was 2.61.

In the town the population was spread out with 18.8% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 19.0% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 31.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 51 years. For every 100 females there were 88.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $27,381, and the median income for a family was $35,052. Males had a median income of $32,426 versus $21,500 for females. The per capita income for the town was $20,059. About 10.0% of families and 14.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.8% of those under age 18 and 10.4% of those age 65 or over.

Cedaredge also has a high school, Cedaredge High School. Its mascot is the Bruin and competes in football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, swimming, tennis, and track. The Cedaredge Bruin Marching Band has won three state marching titles in class 1A (2002, 2003, and 2005).
