Elric (comics)

Elric of Melniboné is a fictional character created by Michael Moorcock that has been featured in several original comic publications and a number of comic book adaptations of original stories, as well as guest-starring in other comic series.

History

Elric's first original tale in a comic was a two-part Conan the Barbarian adventure entitled "A Sword Called Stormbringer!" and “The Green Empress of Melniboné”, written by Roy Thomas, based on a story plotted by Michael Moorcock and James Cawthorn that appeared in Conan the Barbarian. Roy Thomas wrote a number of Marvel Comics adaptations in the early to mid-eighties with P. Craig Russell on art duties.

Moorcock wrote a 12-issue series of comics, "Michael Moorcock’s Multiverse", that weaves together stories featuring Elric and (at least) two other avatars of the Eternal Champion. Each story was illustrated by a different artist: Walter Simonson, Mark Reeve, and John Ridgway.

P. Craig Russell wrote and drew an "Elric: Stormbringer" comic in 1997 which was published by Dark Horse Comics and Topps Comics. [ [http://www.darkhorse.com/news/pressrelease.php?id=254 Dark Horse press release] ]

Most recently, Moorcock has written a 4-issue comic series, "Elric: The Making of a Sorcerer", again with Simonson. This is a direct prequel to "Elric of Melniboné" and fits neatly into the chronology of Elric’s saga.
