Nancy Jo Powell (b. 1947, Cedar Falls, Iowa) assumed the position of Director General of the United States Foreign Service on August 3, 2009 after serving as the American ambassador for Nepal.^[1] Powell is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. Ambassador Powell joined the Foreign Service in 1977 and has held assignments in Africa and South Asia.
