Sahl Smbatean (Lang-hy|Սահլ Սմբատյան), also known as Sahl ibn Sumbat in Arab sources, was an Armenian prince of

Sahl initially provided refuge toBabak Khorramdin and fought with him against theIslamic conquest of Persia . However, later he assisted Afshin, the prominent general [Mohammad Arshad. "An Advanced History of Islam", Ideal Publications, 1967, p. 309] of the Abbasid Caliph al-Mutasim, in capturingBabak Khorramdin .
