Khanna (name)

Khanna is a prominent clan from the Khatri community of the Punjab region straddling Northern India and Pakistan. It is common to both, Punjabi Hindu and Sikh families.

Today, Khannas largely reside in the states of Punjab and Haryana. Many have migrated to Uttar Pradesh and other northern states. This clan has also spread to other parts of the world.

Khannas are believed to have descended from a certain Khatri names "Khan Chand."

Khanna' along with Kapoor's & Malhotra's form the top of the punjabi social pyramid called 'dhai ghara'.The dhai ghara is a social structure of punjabi which has Khanna's at top followed by Kapoor's, Malhotra's & Seth's. These are followed by many other surnames. The lowest are the Arora's & Sood's
