Agiovlasitika

Agiovlasitika, also Agiovlassitika, Ayiovlasitika and Ayiovlassitika (Greek: Αγιοβλασίτικα) is a Greek village located about approximately 5 km southeast of Kato Achaia, 24 km south of Patras and northeast of Pyrgos. The GR-9 (Patras - Pyrgos - Kyparissia is 4 km to the north and 5 km with the older one. Agiovlastika had a 2001 population of was 443 for the village and 1,072 for the municipal district. Agiovlasitika is in the municipality of Dymi.

Geography

Agiovlasitika is situated in a plateau area and contains several valleys. The farmlands covers sporadically and the valley alonf forests, hills and mountains, mostly in the western and the eastern parts. The Tytheos river flows to the east. Its main production are fruits including watermelon, melon, figs and vegetables including corn, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, cucumbers and others as well as dairy, livestock, olives and others. The majority of the population are based in other businesses as well as agriculture.

Information

Houses were stone-built until the 1950s and did not surpass modern-style homes until the 1980s. It was linked with pavement in the 1980s. Most of the homes are abandoned today.

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, much of the population left for larger towns and cities especially the nearby Patras. The population decline dramatically by 80% between the 1981 and the 1991 census, the population nearly doubled the 1991 and the 2001 censuses.

Agiovlasitika has a school, a lyceum (middle school), a church, and a square ("plateia"), its nearest school gymnasium (secondary school) are in Kato Achaia. Its nearest hospital is the Agios Andreas Hospital in eastcentral Patras.
