Yug River

Yug River

Yug ( _ru. Юг, lit. "south") is a river in the European part of Russia, a tributary of the Northern Dvina. Its length is km to mi|574. Its source is near Nikolsk in Vologda Oblast. It flows roughly in northern direction. The Yug joins the river Sukhona near Veliky Ustyug, thus forming the Northern Dvina.

The name of the river originates in Finno-Ugric languages spoken in the area before the Slavic expansion, probably Komi language, meaning "river" (compare Finnish "joki").
