Chuck Floyd

Chuck Floyd, a 20-year United States Army veteran and active duty major, is a politician from the state of Maryland. In the 2004 U.S. Congressional election, he unsuccessfully challenged Democratic U.S. Representative Chris Van Hollen; Floyd ran as a Republican. Floyd lost the race for Maryland's Eighth Congressional District, taking only 25% of the vote.

During the campaign, Floyd ran on a very conservative platform, especially considering the liberal nature of the district, which had been redrawn two years earlier. As a result, Floyd's conservative stances and strong support for President George W. Bush were unpopular in the district. Floyd also claimed that, as a member of the then-majority Republican party, he could accomplish more than the Democratic Van Hollen.

Floyd initially planned on running against Van Hollen again in the 2006 election. However, when Montgomery County, Maryland Executive Doug Duncan announced his candidacy for Governor of Maryland, Floyd announced that he would instead seek the Republican nomination for the County Executive position.
