Career

Rakesh Roshan started his career as an actor in the 1970s and has acted in over 70 films. He then set up his own production company Filmkraft in 1980 and his first production was "Aap Ke Deewane" (1980). He made his directorial debut with "Khudgarz" (1987) and went onto direct several Box office hits such as "Kishen Kanhaiya" (1990) and "Karan Arjun" (1995). Rakesh launched his son Hrithik's career as an actor with "Kaho Naa... Mil Gaya" (2003), and its sequel, the science fiction superhero film "Krrish" (2006) both of which have been very successful at the box office. [http://www.boxofficeindia.com/00-09.htm] . He is set to direct a sequel to "Krrish" and is the producer of the film "Krazzy 4" which released on April 11. This marked the first time he produced a film but did not direct it. "Krazzy 4" stayed in the news in the days leading to its release due to a copyright dispute over the music of the film. Musician Ram Sampat went to court against Rakesh Roshan alleging that music composed by him for an advertisement starring Hrithik Roshan had been plagiarised for a song in "Krazzy 4". Rakesh Roshan lost the lawsuit in the Supreme Court and had to pay 2 crore rupees (About $500,000) to Ram Sampat as compensation. Rakesh Roshan has been known for plagiarising music and stories for his films throughout his career.
