Immediacy (software)

Immediacy is a content management system for creating and maintaining websites and intranets. Immediacy CMS was originally developed by a company of the same name founded in 1996 by Nigel Jackson and John Greenlees. Immediacy CMS powers websites and intranets at organisations such as the BBC, The Sage Group, Virgin Retail Group, British Museum, Department for Transport, London Borough of Tower Hamlets and British Transport Police.

The Immediacy CMS has a browser-based interface, similar to standard office software. The WYSIWYG interface allows users to create pages featuring tables, images, and database driven content. Additional features include document management, auto categorisation and automatic synchronisation of content between multiple servers. The system is built around Microsoft .NET and uses Microsoft SQL Server for content storage.

Immediacy CMS was independently reviewed in May 2007 by market analysts Bloor Research which concluded that the CMS was intuitive, easy to use and enabled "subject matter experts" to create standards compliant XHTML pages without requiring technical skills. In June 2007 Immediacy was acquired by rival content management vendor, Mediasurface Plc. In July 2008, the Mediasurface group was aquired by Alterian [cite web|url=http://www.cmswatch.com/Trends/1249-Mediasurface-acquired-by-Alterian|title=Mediasurface acquired by Alterian|date=2008-05-18] and Immediacy CMS became part of Alterians suite of products described as an Enterprise Marketing Platform
