The jugular veins arevein s that bring deoxygenated blood from thehead back to the heart via thesuperior vena cava .Internal and external
There are two sets of jugular veins: external and internal.
* The
internal jugular vein is formed by theanastomosis of blood from thesigmoid sinus of thedura mater and thecommon facial vein . The internal jugular runs with thecommon carotid artery andvagus nerve inside thecarotid sheath . It provides venous drainage for the contents of theskull .* The
external jugular runs superficially tosternocleidomastoid .Both connect to the brachocephalic veins, the external jugular joining more laterally than the internal. The brachicephalic veins then join the
subclavian veins from both sides then join to form thesuperior vena cava . [ [http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=9187 Jugular vein definition - Medical Dictionary definitions of popular medical terms easily defined on MedTerms ] ]There is also another, minor, jugular vein, the
