The 5th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Cavalry was an cavalry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

The 5th Iowa Cavalry was originally raised as the Curtis Horse in Omaha, Nebraska and later absorbed cavalry companies from Iowa, Missouri and Minnesota and then transferred to Iowa state service per an order of December 20, 1861.
The regiment was mustered out of Federal service on August 11, 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia.
Total strength and casualties
A total of 1625 men served in the 5th Iowa at one time or another during its existence.
