Mercenaries attempted to overthrow the government of Equatorial Guinea by departing in a plane from Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe National Army seized the plane on March 9, 2004 before it took off and arrested the mercenaries. Asked by the press whether the army had been put on full alert, Ncube said he regarded the incident as "normal procedure."
