Kansas Bureau of Investigation

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, or KBI is the criminal investigative arm of the state of Kansas. The agency was established in 1939 by the Kansas Legislature, and is a division of the state's Attorney General [ [http://www.accesskansas.org/kbi/about_history.shtml Kansas Bureau of Investigation - History] ] . Among the KBI's responsibilities include providing investigative and labratorial services to criminal justice agencies, and promoting and preventing crime in the state of Kansas [ [http://www.accesskansas.org/kbi/about_mission.shtml Kansas Bureau of Investigation - Mission] ] . Robert Blecha is the current director of the KBI [ [http://www.accesskansas.org/kbi/about_directors_listing.shtml Kansas Bureau of Investigation - Directors] ] .

The KBI is authorized 85 special agents and 150 civilian employees [ [http://www.accesskansas.org/kbi/about_structure_admin.shtml Kansas Bureau of Investigation - Administrative Structure] ] .

The KBI was the primary agency involved in the murder investigation that was chronicled in Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood."
