Juan José Elhuyar Lubize (June 15,1754 – September 20,1796) was a Spanish Basque chemist and mineralogist, the joint discoverer of tungsten with his brother Fausto Elhuyar in 1783.

He was born in Logroño, son of French-Basque parents from Hasparren(Labourd). Died in Santafé de Bogotá, Colombia ( Kingdom of Spain until the arrival of Simon Bolivar ).
