Robert S. Stevens

Robert Smith Stevens (March 27, 1824 - February 23, 1893) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Attica, Wyoming County, New York, Stevens Prepared for college under a tutor.He pursued an academic course.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1846.He moved to Kansas, and engaged in the practice of law.He subsequently became extensively interested in real estate, in the development of coal lands, and in the management and building of railroads.He served as member of the State house of representatives.He retired from active business pursuits in 1880 and returned to New York.He engaged in agricultural pursuits.

Stevens was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1883-March 3, 1885).He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1884 to the Forty-ninth Congress.He resumed agricultural pursuits.He died in Attica, Wyoming County, New York, on February 23, 1893.He was interred in Forest Hill Cemetery.
