Consulate-General of the United States in Hong Kong

The Consulate General of the United States of America Hong Kong and Macau is located on 26, Garden Road, Mid-levels, Hong Kong Island since the late 1950s. [ [http://hongkong.usconsulate.gov/about_consulate_offices.html About us] ] The current Consul General is Joseph R. Donovan Jr., since 14th August, 2008.

Although Hong Kong and Macau are under the sovereignty of the People's Republic of China, the U.S. Consulate General to Hong Kong and Macau operates as its own mission, with the Consul General as the "Chief of Mission". [ [http://www.state.gov/m/dghr/cm/ Chiefs of Mission] ] As such, the Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau is not under the jurisdiction of the Ambassador to China, and reports directly to the U.S. Department of State as do other chiefs of mission, who are ambassadors in charge of embassies.
