Gippsland soccer league

The Gippsland Soccer league consists of 17 soccer teams and is competed between all age groups. It was founded in 1973.

In recent years, Churchill United Rams have won the Grand Final in 2005 in a penalty shootout against Fortuna 60 after the game finished 1-1, but Fortuna exacted revenge on them by defeating them in the same way in 2006 after the final score was 2-2. Falcons 2000, an offshoot club from Gippsland Falcons, also play in the Gippsland Soccer League and play at Falcons Park which is the new home of soccer in the Gippsland Soccer League. All cup and finals matches are to be played at Falcons Park as it is the only ground in Gippsland which features Football Federation Victoria approved lights, therefore no other ground can host night matches.

Morwell Pegasus also feature in the Gippsland Soccer League's junior divisions, however its senior team plays in the State Provisional League, many divisions down from the Victorian Premier League.

The GSL features three senior grades, the Seniors, Reserves and Second Division (Thirds) along with Junior grades, from Under 7's to Under 16's. [http://www.gippslandsoccer.com.au/common/pages/public/rv/ladder.aspx?mode=0 1]

The 2007 Senior League Champions are Churchill United, winning the league ahead of second placed Fortuna, winning the league with 3 rounds to spare. The Churchill Reserves and Second Division teams followed suit by both winning the league titles on the last day of the season.

All Senior Gippland clubs contest for the Battle of Britain Cup, the oldest continually contested trophy in Victorian soccer. Churchill has won it two years in a row (2005-2006) and will compete for its third in a row after making it into the final.
