"The Beginning of the Enz" is a 1979 release from New Zealand rock group Split Enz. The album is a collection of songs and demos from the early days of the band. Several of these songs, such as "129", "Lovey Dovey" and "Spellbound" were later re-recorded and included on albums such as Mental Notes and Second Thoughts.

The album did not chart in Australia but reached #35 in New Zealand.

An unrelated compilation album, "Beginning of the Enz" (dropping "The" from the title), was released in England in 1980 by Chrysalis Records and mainly included tracks from 1976's "Second Thoughts" and 1977's "Dizrythmia". It also included the first album appearance of the 1977 non-album single "Another Great Divide".
