Phillip Island 500K

Phillip Island 500K

The Phillip Island 500K was an endurance race held at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria each year from 1971 to 1977. The first two races were open to Group E Series Production Touring Cars but with the demise of that category at the end of 1972 the event switched to Group C Touring Car regulations.

The event name changed throughout its history according to the sponsorship (or lack of sponsorship) applying each year. The 500K was a round of the Australian Manufacturers' Championship from 1971 to 1975 and counted towards both the Australian Championship of Makes and the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1976 and 1977.

For the 2008 V8 Supercar season a 500 kilometre two driver endurance touring car race returns to Phillip Island, taking over the long-lived Sandown 500, and will be Round 9 of the 14 event season.
