Blessed Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School ("BMTCSS" or "BMT") is a Catholic secondary school in Scarborough, a municipality of Toronto, Ontario. It is part of the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

History and Tradition

In its conception, a new school in the Scarborough area of Toronto was to be named "Mary Ward". Then trustee Harold Adams advocated for the new school to be named Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School, and came to be known as "MTCSS" (or simply "MT") among staff, students, and alumni.

Another school was built later, and that received the name Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School.

The ideals of the school's patroness and namesake, Mother Teresa, became inspiration for the school's motto.

The school, established in 1985, started out in portables and port-o-pacs. In 1989, under the direction of Principal George Iantorno, the school population of 650 students moved to the newly-built facility that stands today.

The school was in the news in 2008 when a 19-year-old was shot and killed just across the street.

Location and Community

54 Ethnic monorities are represented in its student population, reflecting the diverse Malvern community that the school serves.

MT stands at the corner of Sewells Road and McLevin Road, off Neilson Road between Sheppard Avenue East and Finch Avenue East. It is beside the Malvern Community and Recreational Centre, which also houses the Malvern Branch of the Toronto Public Library.
