Greenwich Street (Manhattan)

Greenwich Street is a north-south street in the New York City borough of Manhattan. It extends from the intersection of 9th Avenue and Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District at its northernmost end to its southern end at Battery Park, interrupted between Vesey and Liberty Streets by the former World Trade Center site. It is sometimes confused with the similarly-named Greenwich Avenue.

Main east-west streets crossed include (from north to south) Christopher Street, Houston Street, Canal Street and Chambers Street. Greenwich Street travels through a number of neighborhoods, including the Meatpacking District, the West Village, SoHo and TriBeCa. At points north of Spring Street, traffic travels north on Greenwich Street; at points south of Spring Street, it travels south.

Transportation

The NYCS service|1 subway line stops on Greenwich Street at the Rector Street station. Other subway stations service Greenwich Street from nearby. These include (from north to south) the 14th Street-Eighth Avenue station where the IND Eighth Avenue Line (NYCS service|A NYCS service|C NYCS service|E) meets the BMT Canarsie Line (NYCS service|L); the Christopher Street-Sheridan Square, Houston Street, Canal Street, Franklin Street and Chambers Street stations on the IRT Broadway-Seventh Avenue Line (NYCS service|1 NYCS service|2 NYCS service|3); and the Chambers Street-World Trade Center station on the IND Eighth Avenue Line (NYCS service|A NYCS service|C NYCS service|E).

The Christopher Street PATH train station is located on Christopher Street just east of Greenwich Street. The World Trade Center PATH station is located near the southern end of Greenwich Street.

The uptown M11 bus travels on Greenwich Street from Bethune Street to Gansevoort Street. The crosstown M8 bus crosses Greenwich Street in both directions, westbound on Christopher Street and eastbound on West 10th Street; similarly, the crosstown M21 bus crosses Greenwich Street in both directions, westbound on Houston Street and eastbound on Spring Street.Streets of Manhattan
