Lubbock metropolitan area

The Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area is a metropolitan area in the South Plains region of Texas, USA, that covers two counties - Lubbock and Crosby. As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 249,700 (though a July 1, 2007 estimate placed the population at 267,211). Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 249,700 people, 95,028 households, and 62,001 families residing within the MSA. The racial makeup of the MSA was 74.00% White, 7.56% African American, 0.58% Native American, 1.27% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 14.59% from other races, and 1.96% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 28.06% of the population.

The median income for a household in the MSA was $28,984 and the median income for a family was $35,479. Males had a median income of $26,868 versus $19,410 for females. The per capita income for the MSA was $15,884.
