TIA 570B

TIA 570B

TIA 570B is a cabling standard for residential telecommunications.

TIA 570B supersedes the TIA 568A for residential standards.

Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) publishes TIA-570-B Residential Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard, which addresses residential structured cabling systems using RG-6 coaxial cable and Cat. 5e or Cat. 6 unshielded twisted pair cables.

The TIA-570B standard also includes information on security, whole-house audio and home automation cabling, and requires Qualification Testing to meet the new residential cable testing standards because of the need to cover a broader range of media types being used in residential applications. In response to this need, the TIA-570B residential cabling standard now calls for “qualification testing”. The qualification method allows installers to test and document that any cabling link will support all the data needs of residential networks such as 100BASE-T, as well as applications like CATV, VoIP, audio/video, and security/alarm. There is an update to this that is currently in the works and will provide additional performance requirements for the coaxial cabling to both accommodate current requirments as well as future requirements, including HD FLAC type audio and HDTV streaming video.

Specified by EIA/TIA and CEDIA.
