Acton Smee Ayrton

Rt. Hon. Acton Smee Ayrton (5 August 1816 – 30 November 1886) was a British Liberal Party politician.

Ayrton practised as a solicitor in Bombay and was called to the bar at the Middle Temple in 1853. He served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Tower Hamlets from 1857-74, and held office as Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury from 1868-9, First Commissioner of Works from 1869-73 and Judge Advocate General from 1873-4. He was appointed a privy counsellor in 1869.
