Blažo Đukanović

Blažo Đukanović (1883 – 1943) was a Chetnik general and political leader in World War II Montenegro

He had previously been the ban of the Zeta Banovina, right up until the end of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. After an independent Montenegro was declared, he eventually became head of Chetniks in Montenegro, the Bay of Kotor and Sandžak.

On July 24, 1942 he signed a deal as leader of the Montenegrin Chetniks with the Italian army represented by General Pirzio Biroli in which he became the head of the Central Nationalist Committee which also included Zelenaši forces. This post made him leader of Montenegro and he held it until October 19, 1943 - near the date of his death. Several days earlier, he had been ambushed by Yugoslav Partisans at the Ostrog Monastery during a prayer, who cut his throat slit and raided the 17th century monastery Serb Orthodox monastery.
