Skelly Oil

Skelly Oil was an independent oil company founded in 1919 by William Grove Skelly in Tulsa, Oklahoma. [cite web | title=Skelly Oil Company | url=http://www.otr.com/skelly.html |publisher= Old Time Radio | accessdate=2007-05-13] It had previously been known as Midland Refining Company.

Arts sponsorship

The company was well known as a sponsor of radio drama series The Air Adventures of Jimmie Allen and Captain Midnight.

Getty takeover

William Skelly lost control of the company to J. Paul Getty in the 1930s. [cite web| url=http://www.frontieroil-eldorado.com/refinery_history.asp | title=Frontier Eldorado Refining Company history | accessdate=2007-05-13] Many former Skelly gas stations were rebranded to Getty, then to Texaco after Getty was acquired.
