The deemed university status was conferred by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (India) with the recommendations of UGC (Established Under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956) to Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation as an acknowledgment of excellence and satisfaction for the highest levels of academic standards and its infrastructure facilities provided to achieve excellence in education.It was renamed as VMU in 2006 as per a new decree issued by the University Grants Commission enabling deemed universities to change their name to 'university'.The BE programmes are accredited by national agencies such as UGC and Institution of Engineers (India). The University has 33 colleges nationally and 4 internationally. It also has 3 Hospitals in India.

Admissions

The admission into Btech courses in VMU is through its own entrance exam VMUEEE.The admission into Medical courses in VMU is also through its own entrance exam.

Eligibility for Engineering

A pass in 10+2 or its equivalent with a minimum average of 60% of marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics or Biology (PCM / PCB) Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) candidates are eligible for all the programmesPhysics, Chemistry & Biology (PCB) candidates are eligible only for B.Tech. Bioinformatics, Biotechnology & Biomedical Engineering programmes
