Andrea Stewart-Cousins

Andrea Stewart-Cousins is a New York State Senator for the 35th district representing Yonkers, Pleasantville, Dobbs Ferry, Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, Elmsford, Irvington, Ardsley and Hastings-on-Hudson. She is a Democrat. Prior to being elected to the New York State Senate, she was a Westchester County Legislator. She was the first African American County Legislator from Yonkers. She ran in 2004 for the State Senate against 18 year Republican incumbent Nicholas Spano, losing by only 18 votes amidst allegations of voter intimidation and fraud. She sought a rematch in 2006 and won by a much wider margin of 2079 votes. The Senator’s Committee assignments are Local Government (Ranking); Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business; Finance; Judiciary; and Tourism, Recreation and Sports Development.
