The Defense Intelligence Analysis Center (DIAC) is the largest of the Defense Intelligence Agency's facilities. It is located on Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, DC. The DIAC was built in 1987 and designed by Smith, Hinchman and Grylls Associates to consolidate DIA activities in the Washington, DC area. While technically the Pentagon is officially DIA's headquarters, the DIAC is by far home to the majority of employees as well as the headquarters of the National Defense Intelligence College and the Defense Intelligence Operations Coordination Center as well as the John T. Hughes Library. In 2005 DIA opened the DIAC Expansion which allowed for more DIA personnel to serve under one roof than ever before and served as the headquarters for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence from 2005 until 2008 when the DNI's own facility was opened in McLean, VA.[1] The DIAC also houses the DIA Patriot's Memorial which commemorates 21 Defense Intelligence Agency employees who have died in the service of the agency and of the United States as well as the 9/11 Memorial which honors seven employees who died in the attacks of September, 11 2001 on the Pentagon.
