Ottawa Flying Club

Ottawa Flying Club

The Ottawa Flying Club (OFC) is a flying club based at the Macdonald-Cartier International Airport in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is eastern Canada's oldest flying club and has been in continuous operation since the late 1920s.

History

The Ottawa Flying Club was incorporated with federal letters patent in 1928 and began operations south of Ottawa at a field named Uplands (now Macdonald-Cartier).

The following year Charles Lindbergh visited the club in the Spirit of St. Louis. In commemoration of this visit the airfield was renamed Lindbergh Field and the current road on which the club is situated is named Lindbergh Private.

During the Second World War the OFC was temporarily moved from its home (which became RCAF Station Uplands) to Quyon, Quebec and used airfields around Ottawa. As part of the war effort, the club participated in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. After the war the club returned to Uplands where it has occupied several buildings and undergone many improvements to its facilities.

Over the years the club has had a number of aircraft including:
*Avro Avian
*Tiger Moth
*Fleet Canuck
*Aeronca
*Stinson
*Piper Arrow, or PA-28-R 200

Present Day

OFC operates out of a club house and hangar on the north side of Macdonald-Cartier International Airport where it offers: sightseeing tours, aircraft rentals, classroom training ("ground school"), and aviation seminars.

The club's fleet includes: Beechcraft BE-76, Cessna C-150, and Cessna C-172 aircraft.
