Hemingray Glass Company

Hemingray Glass Company

The Hemingray Glass Company was an American glass company famous for its collectible insulators. The company was founded by Robert Hemingray and Ralph Gray in 1848. Over time the company has had different names such as Gray, Hemingray and Bros., H.G. Co. and R. Hemingray Co. The Hemingray company had factories in Cincinnati, Ohio, Covington, Kentucky, and Muncie, Indiana. It also produced a variety of other glass objects, some now also sought after. In 1933, the company was sold to the Owens-Illinois Glass Company. A large body of factual information about the complex history of Hemingray is available on the web.

The old Muncie plant is currently home to Gerdau Ameristeel. This plant coats and fabricates reinforcing steel.
