Biography
David was seventeen when he started practicing Jiu-Jitsu. His first instructor was Alexandre de Lima at the Infight Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Rio de Janeiro, but a few months later he was invited to start training with Rogerio Poggio at the main Infight Academy. After winning the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, David went to São Paulo to train with the founder of the Infight Academy, 5th Degree BJJ Black Belt "Pitoco" Totila Jordan Neto. In 2004 David came to the United States to compete at the Pan American Championship and that is when he was introduced to Gracie Barra by Pitoco's old friend Eduardo de Lima. When David went back to Brazil he decided to join Gracie Barra Academy where in 2005 he got his Black Belt. At Gracie Barra, David had the chance to train with some of the best instructors and fighters in the world.
In 2006 David went to the USA and became a professional licensed Mixed Martial Arts fighter; and just a year latter David was featured in the MMA Authority Magazine as the new up coming fighter, and was described by the editor as the “Brazilian Prodigy”. But after 4 successful MMA fights in the US, David decided to go back to Brazil to improve his MMA game and become a more complete fighter by training at some of the best MMA and Jiu-Jitsu academies in Rio.
As a Jiu-Jitsu Professor David has awarded Black Belts to Ciro Moura (Brazil), Chad Robichaux (USA), Soufiane Hammoud (France) and Antoine Bachelin (France).
David has recently opened another Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy but this time in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (DVBJJ Rio). David currently teaches at his own Jiu-Jitsu Academy but he also continues his MMA training at Gordo Jiu-Jitsu Academy.
Most of David's friends and family call him just Davi or Magro (Portuguese for Skinny).
Reality Show
At the end of 2010 David was invited to be in a reality show in Brazil that aired nationwide at the Multishow channel in May 2011. The show is called Minha Praia (Portuguese for My Beach) and it's an original reality television adventure/reward game show in which teams of two people, man and women, compete with other teams. Contestants are isolated in a secluded beach in Brazil to compete for prizes. The show uses a system of progressive elimination, allowing the contestants to vote off other rival team members. - In 2010 after training in Freestyle Wrestling for a few months, David tested his new found skill at the Wrestling State Championship in Rio. He was able get 3rd place which qualified him for the Wrestling National Championship in São Paulo a week later; but due to a foot injury he wasn't able to compete.

David has competed in many BJJ and Grappling tournaments and he has also won several National and International titles with the majority of his wins coming via submission, and with over 200 tournaments matches under his belt David has only been submitted 3 times in his career.
