German Type U 151 submarine

U 151 was a class of U-boats built during World War I by the Kaiserliche Marine.

U 151 U-boats carried 18 torpedoes and were armed with two 105 mm deck gun. They carried a crew of 35 and had a cruising range of around convert|25000|nmi|km|-2. They were originally designed and built to be large merchant U-boats for shipping material to and from locations otherwise denied German surface ships, such as United States.

In 1916 7 were built but 6 of them were converted for way duty in 1917. Two of them had been operational for commercial purposes, Deutschland commanded by Paul König and Bremen.

"Deutschland" successfully went on two commercial patrols before being commissioned into the Kaiserliche Marine on February 17, 1917 as the U-155. "Bremen" was lost on her first patrol early in 1917 along with entire crew under uncertain circumstances but possibly mined.

The famous Max Valentiner was also in command of a Type U 151 U-boat, the U-157 and undertook the longest cruise in the war from November 27, 1917 to April 15, 1918, a total of 139 days. High-scoring Waldemar Kophamel also commanded a Type U 151 U-boat, the U-151 in late summer and fall of 1917.
