- Thermospray
Thermospray is a form of atmospheric pressure ionization in
mass spectrometry . It transfers ions from the liquid phase to the gas phase for analysis. It is particularly useful inliquid chromatography-mass spectrometry . [Blakley, C. R.; Carmody, J. TSP ionization is achieved by passing a pressurized solution through a heated tube which partially vaporizes the effluent to generate a spray prior to entering the ion source. Droplets from the spray contain a statistical imbalance of charges originating from charged solutes present in the solution. The droplets gradually decrease in size by evaporation of neutral solvent molecules until the droplet reaches a size at which the charge repulsion forces overcome the cohesive forces of the droplet.
