Valencia CF B is a Spanish football team. It is the reserve team of Valencia CF. Unlike the majority of English football league system, reserve teams in the Spanish football league system play in the same football pyramid as their senior team rather than in a separate league. However, reserve teams cannot play in the same division as their senior team. Therefore the team is ineligible for promotion to the Primera Division. Reserve teams are also no longer permitted to enter the Copa del Rey. In the past the reserve teams of both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid have blurred the lines between being a reserve team and a separate entity.

The team is officially known as Valencia CF Mestalla on the club's official promotion and website, but LFP rules prohibit B clubs from having different names to their parent club, except Real Madrid B and Sevilla B, which currently plays/once played in Segunda División.

The new head coach from the start of the 2007-08 season is Oscar Rubén Fernández Romero, who previously has managed Valencia CF juvenil A (2006-07) and Burjassot (2005-06) [ [http://www.futbolme.com/0708/_p_jugadores.asp?indice=7314&apodo=Oscar%20Fern%E1ndez futbolme.com] ]

History

In 1952 they were slotted to join the top division however they were not allowed due to the fact that the senior team was already in the top division.
