Character

The daughter of the head of the spiritual evocation division of the Clock Tower of the Magus Association. She is engaged to Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi as a result of a strategic marriage arrangement. As her older brother (to whom the Sophia-Ri family had entrusted its magic crest) had achieved little success as a mage, her family sought to marry her to the celebrated Lord El-Melloi in an attempt to salvage the family name.

Role

Sola-Ui is introduced in Volume 2 of Fate/Zero as Kayneth's fiancée - and apparently one who does not get along with her intended husband. While Kayneth acts as Lancer's Master, Sola-Ui is revealed to be the one supplying the Servant with magical energy.

Sola-Ui openly calls Kayneth a coward for not facing the other Masters face-to-face, and criticizes his tactics when commanding Lancer in battle. However, she is chastised by Lancer, who resents her reprimanding of his Master, and immediately backs down. Kayneth in turn views her apprent submission to Lancer as evidence of her developing affections for the Servant. Before the issue is addressed, Kayneth's stronghold in the Fuyuki Hyatt Hotel is attacked by Kiritsugu Emiya and Maiya Hisau.

When Kayneth is severely injured in battle with Emiya Kiritsugu, Sola-Ui heals him as much as she can, but then exploits his weakened condition to force him to surrender his Command Spells, effectively making her the sole Master of Lancer. However, Lancer continues to regard Kayneth as his true Master, and her as merely a proxy, causing the increasingly infatuated Sola-Ui a great deal of distress. She is even more devastated when Lancer refuses to allow her to follow him into battle, having grown so obsessed with him that she cannot bear their being apart.

Against Lancer's wishes, Sola-Ui later witnesses the battle between Caster and the other Servants from a distance. During the battle, she is suddenly attacked and knocked unconscious by Maiya Hisau, who chops off one of Sola-Ui's arms (the one carrying the Command Spells) so that she is unable to summon Lancer to her aid. She is then used as a bargaining chip by Kiritsugu, who uses her to blackmail Kayneth. Kayneth agrees to a mage's contract, an unbreakable agreement between magi at the cost of permanently being unable to use magic; Kiritsugu agrees not to harm either Kayneth or Sola-Ui, on the condition that Kayneth forces Lancer to kill himself. However, they are subsequently set upon by Maiya, who is not bound by the contract. With her beloved Lancer having perished, Sola-Ui is shot dead soon after by Maiya's Steyr AUG.
