Yeshua bar Abba

Yeshua bar Abba

Yeshua bar Abba ("Jesus son of the Father") is the name, according to such scholars as Hyam Maccoby and Benjamin Urrutia, originally borne by Jesus Christ or Jesus of Nazareth, due to his habit of always praying to God as Abba, meaning "Father." According to the theory, when the multitude demanded the freedom of "Jesus Barabbas," it was Jesus of Nazareth they meant.

Yeshua was born sometime between 7 BCE and 7 CE in a small village of the Galilee, known in Hebrew as Natserath and in English as Nazareth. His father was a house-builder named Yosef (Joseph) and his mother was Miriam (Mary). His brothers were Yaakov (James), Shimeon (Simon), Yehuda (Judah) and Yossi (Joses).

Simcha Jacobovici claims to have uncovered the family tomb of Jesus Christ, from a plain ossuary scratched with the name Yeshua bar Yosef, along with other ossuaries with known family names.

He recounts his discovery and his analysis as this likely being the family tomb of Jesus Christ in his book, co-authored with Charles R. Pellegrino. A documentary film, The Lost Tomb of Jesus, was produced with film maker James Cameron and released on The Discovery Channel in March 2007.
