ynopsis

Dunder Mifflin Scranton is thrown into damage control when reams of paper with an obscene watermark are shipped to customers. Kelly trains the accountants to handle customer support calls, while Michael stages a press conference, presenting a novelty check for free paper to one of their customers. The customer refuses Michael's apology and demands his resignation.

Jim and Andy are sent to calm a school principal that used the affected paper to print invitations to the prom. At the school, Andy discovers that his "girlfriend" is a high school student.

Creed, who failed to catch the error, saves his quality assurance job by framing an employee at the paper mill.

Michael makes an "apology video" in which he reiterates that the incident was not his fault and that he has become an "escape goat".

Jim shows up at work looking and sounding like Dwight, to Dwight's anger. Dwight later shows up looking and acting like Jim to much of Pam's pleasure who keeps poking fun at him.

Deleted scenes

The Season Three DVD contains a number of deleted scenes. Notable cut scenes include:
*Ryan is forced to listen to Kelly repeat the same apology over and over again.
*Michael compares this crisis to an incident at which "an aspirin company" sold bottles with poison in them.
*Dwight calls CNN and tries to reach the Scranton bureau chief.
*Creed explains that he faked his death to collect his own life insurance.
*Andy barges into Jamie's Spanish class.
*In a talking head interview, Michael compares dissatisfied clients to women.
*Kelly and Angela have a disagreement over how to apologize to customers.
*Pam discusses Michael's previous apology videos.
*Jim unsuccessfully tries to dissuade Andy from talking to Jamie in the courtyard. Jim tries making small talk with Jamie's friend.
*Additional footage from Michael's apology video.
*Creed accepts credit for tracking down the problem.

* In the opening, Jim states that his Dwight ensemble cost him $4 for the glasses and $7 for the rest, and then pretended to need his calculator wristwatch to discover the total of $11. Later on, Angela chastises Kevin for incorrectly adding $4 and $7 to something other than $11 on an accounting form.
* Pam and Jim never speak to each other, although they both participate in the conversation about Michael trying to save time by talking in code.
* Jim and Andy are seen driving down the same road in the same direction before and after their meeting at the school. The same houses are shown in the background.
* When Michael is recording his "apology" speech with Dwight and Pam, he doesn't read it in its entirety. The complete speech, as is revealed on Dwight's cue cards, reads:
*:"Hello, I am Michael Scott, Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin, Scranton. By now you're probably sick of hearing about Dunder Mifflin and our embarrassing watermark boner.
*:I have literally apologized an infinite number of times over this, and still there are calls for me to resign, calls from an annoying woman and possibly even the media alike. Well, let me tell you something. Something from the heart. I will not resign. I am not
*:leaving this office. It will take a SWAT team to remove me from this office, and maybe not even then. There is no way I will resign. It wouldn't be fair, not to the good workers I work with, not to my clients. And especially not to me. Let's not forget who this resigning business is really all about.
*:I need this job. My mortgage is hundreds of dollars a month. With this job I can barely cover that. I have a company car, but I still have to pay for the gas. Gas prices are high and I have no savings whatsoever. And it wasn't even me. It is so not fair that they want me to resign.
*:If I could leave you with one thought: remember, it wasn't me. They are trying to make me an escapegoat. If I am fired, I swear to God that every single piece of copier paper in this town is going to have the F word on it. The F word. You have one day."
