Nolalu, Ontario

Nolalu is a community in the Whitefish River Valley, in the Unorganized area of Thunder Bay District, Ontario, Canada. Nolalu stands for "North Land Lumber". Although unincorporated, Nolalu is overseen by a local service board.

Nolalu is 44 km south west of the city of Thunder Bay. It sits at Latitude 48.28 and Longitude 89.83 in Lybster Township [] . The term "Nolalu" is also used to describe a wide area around the village. The Whitefish River flows through the village on its way toward the Kaministiquia River.

The village owes its origins to the Port Arthur, Duluth and Western Railway line that was built to access mineral and timber wealth in the area [] . The land was opened for homesteading at the turn of 20th century and many people, particularly those from Finland, settled in the area.
