History

The village owes its origins to the Port Arthur, Duluth and Western Railway line that was built to access mineral and timber wealth in the area [http://www.members.shaw.ca/padwrr/home.htm] . The land was opened for homesteading at the turn of 20th century and many people, particularly those from Finland, settled in the area.
