Sinfin branch line

Sinfin branch line

The Sinfin branch line is a railway line located in Sinfin area in Derby, Derbyshire. It fully lies within the premises of Rolls-Royce and other works sites of Sinfin. The line was opened by the British Railways Board on 4th October 1976.

The line has always consisted of a single track (with various sidings) and originally stretched to the Chellaston Junction with the Trent (Sheet Stores) Junction to Willington line. Beyond this it carried on to Melbourne. In 1976 the track was lifted beyond the level crossing with Wilmore Road just south of the Rolls-Royce works.

It was closed to passenger traffic in 1993, due to the incompatibility of the existing signalling system with Sprinters.

Before its closure, the line consisted of two stations: Sinfin North and Sinfin Central. Please see the individual links for more information.
