"Hello (Turn Your Radio On)" is a song first performed by Shakespears Sister and the penultimate single release from the album "Hormonally Yours".

As with most singles from the album it was released as a two part pack including two other remixes and, on most formats the Andre Betts Remix of 'Stay'. In the US it was released in July 1992, at about the same time as the UK release of Goodbye Cruel World.

Lyrics

About Hello, Siobhan once said "Hello is the furthest I've comes as a writer, because it's intense and emotional and it sounds like it could have been done by a man". (Vox, May 1992). The lyrics are also thoughtful and different from those on other songs. "Hello" is one of Siobhan Fahey's favourite Shakespears Sister not least due to the fact that the lyrics are extremely personal and poignant.

Hello was the last successful single from Shakespears Sister with Marcella part of the group. The next single 'My 16th Apology' was released after the Brit Awards (where the band won Best Video for 'Stay') by which time the public and media alike were aware all was not well and that a split was inevitable, prompted by the fact Siobhan wasn't present at the Brit Awards.

In 1996 Siobhan Fahey performed "Hello" as part of the Shakespears Sister sets at live festival gigs during the Summer eg: T in the Park in Scotland.

Music video

The accompanying black and white video was derived from a 1950s movie. The opening shows a hand opening two doors inside the (glass fronted) room Siobhan and Marcella are sitting amongst a disarray of objects where they sing with little difference happening in between, and at one point, the pair have piglets sitting on their laps. This video was directed by Sophie Muller and featured on the Hormonally Yours video collection as the last track and also on the DVD release of 2004's Best Of compilation

Chart performace

The song succeeded well in the UK charts at number 14.

Other versions

* The German band 'The Bates' covered this song, turning it into a heavy rock song, at a faster tempo. Their their video, however, is similar to that of Shakespears Sister.
