Hurn is listed in the Domesday Book, as Herne (in the "Egheiete Hundred" of "Hantescire") [ [http://www.envf.port.ac.uk/hantsgaz/hantsgaz/s0003469.htm Old Hampshire Gazetteer - University of Portsmouth.] ] , and was later known in the 13th century as Hyrne and in the 14th century as Hurne.
