Temple dance

Temple dance denotes a religious performance held in the temples.

Most often the term refers to the sacred Hindu temple dance sadir that used to be performed by devadasis, who were supposed to manifest in the material body the heavenly dance of apsaras.

The ancient temple dances of India are bharatanatyam, odissi, kathakali.
