No. 253 Squadron RAF

RAF 253 Squadron was based at RAF Waterbeach in the two years 1955 to 1957. It flew Vampire and Venom fighter aircraft.

253 squadron (Hyderabad ) Nighthawks. Squadron commander wing commander Finlayson One Vampire T Mk 11. Two flights of Venoms NF Mk 2a.( Two Seat Night Fighter)

These differed from the FB Mk 1 by having a widened fuselarge to accommodate a pilot and navigator/observer and an extended nose for the radar equipment. The Mk 2a also incorporated a clear view canopy and a modifide tail unit.
