3 for the Money

3 For The Money was a short lived NBC game show that aired from September 29, 1975 to November 28 of that same year. The show was a production of Stefan Hatos/Monty Hall Productions.

Host/Announcer

Dick Enberg, a sportscaster for NBC and (at the time) host of "Sports Challenge", helmed "3 For The Money". Jack Clark was his announcer.

Format

Two teams, featuring two contestants and a celebrity captain, played for an entire week of shows.

"3 For The Money" was conducted as follows:

Round 1

In the first round, the celebrity captain would be shown a category with three questions in it. They would then decide who would answer the questions, as well as deciding how many of the opposing team they wanted to challenge.

Clues would then be given to help the team guess what the subject was. If the controlling team's player buzzed in and got the question right, they would receive $100 multiplied by the number of challenged players on the opposing team. If one of the challenged players jumped in and got it correct, their team would receive $100.

The round continued until three categories had been played.

Round 2 (The Catch-Up Round)

The second round was called the Catch-Up round, and was played as a speed round. The celebrity captain on the team once again would choose the player to answer the questions and how many of the opposing team members they wanted to challenge.

The round went on for two minutes, with the celebrity having one time out at their disposal that they could use to change their strategy (i.e., challenge all 3 opposing team members instead of only 2).

Whoever was ahead at the end of the Catch-Up round won the game and played the bonus round.

Bonus Game

The winning team would be presented three category choices, and once one was picked, they would be shown answers that fit the category which would be revealed one letter at a time until the answer was correct. The celebrity captain saw the first word, and once they got it correct control passed to the next contestant in line, and so on and so forth. Incorrect answers eliminated the contestant for the remainder of the round.

The team had 45 seconds to guess 7 correct answers. If they could do it, the contestants would win a cash jackpot that started at $1,000 and went up by that amount every day regardless of whether it was won the previous day.

At the end of each week, the contestants on the team which racked up the most money would each receive a new car.

Episode status

Counting pilots, five episodes of "3 For The Money" are known to exist.
