Named after the volcanic caldera lakes ofLake Shikotsu andLake Tōya , it has a total area of 993.02 square kilometers. The popularhot spring resort ofNoboribetsu is also within the park.It can be divided into roughly five areas:
* TheMount Yōtei area
* The area around Lake Tōya,Mount Usu andShowashinzan
* The area around the hot springs of nihongo|Noboribetsu|登別|, nihongo|Orofure Tōge |オロフレ峠|, and nihongo|Lake Kuttara |倶多楽湖|Kuttara-ko
* The area around nihongo|Lake Shikotsu |支笏湖|Shikotsu-ko, nihongo|Mount Tarumae |樽前山|Tarumae-san, and nihongo|Mount Eniwa |恵庭岳|
